The upper is shell cordovan in burgundy, cut from the firm, non-porous shell of the horse's hindquarter. Cordovan's tight fibre structure resists creasing in the way calf cannot, developing instead a deep, rolling lustre with wear. This burgundy sits in the richer end of the spectrum — closer to oxblood in certain light — and will only deepen over years of use. Lining, insole, heel, and stiffeners are all leather throughout.
The sole is attached by Blake stitch, a single thread run through insole, upper, and outsole in one pass — producing a lean profile and a close, uncluttered welt line. Made entirely in-house at The Strand Arcade, Sydney, where every stage from pattern to last to finishing is handled by the same small team. A rubber top piece may be added to the leather sole for $60.
