The upper is cut from Vegano stain box calf, a chrome-tanned leather finished with a light aniline stain that produces a restrained grey with a subtle, natural sheen. Box calf is firm in hand when new, softening gradually with wear to follow the foot while holding its shape through years of use — a leather that improves with attention rather than despite it.
Each pair is Blake stitched through an all-leather construction: leather lining, leather stiffeners, and a chestnut vegetable-tanned double sole and heel. Blake stitching keeps the welt profile lean and the break supple from the first wear. Made individually at Andrew McDonald's workshop in The Strand Arcade, Sydney. A rubber top piece (Topy) can be added to the leather sole for $80.
